> [!NOTE] Oyama Jinja Shrine East Gate National Registered Tangible Cultural Properties
> The east gate is a *kara-mon* gate, a sophisticated style of gate originating in Japan and named for the distinctive shape of the roofs. This gate formerly led to the Ninomaru Goten residence within Kanazawa Castle. In 1870, the gate was moved to Shokon Sha Shrine on Mt. Utatsuyama. In 1963, it was dismantled and rebuilt in its current location.
>
> According to one theory, the gate predates the 1808 fire in Ninomaru Goten. Legend has it that the two dragons carved into the gate summoned water to protect this gate alone from burning.
>
> However, it is also theorized that the gate was built in 1809 during Ninomaru Goten's reconstruction because part of the gate's detailing features designs that are characteristic of the late-Edo period.

We also found this statue of these cute gold [frogs (蛙)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frog) on what looked to be a [lily pad (リリーパッド)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nymphaeaceae#Vegetative_characteristics).
